Another long standing Sea Isle business has called it quits. Scoop Daddy's Ice Cream on the northwest corner of Landis Ave and 33rd Street was demolished. Across the street from Pirate Island Golf (and in the old days Fun City) Scoop Daddy's was for sale most of last year. No word yet on what will be built on this location but we are guessing first floor retail with condo's above.

Sea Isle City council adopted a capital expense plan that includes building a recreation center with an indoor pool on the site of the old Sea Isle public school. The site is currently housing city hall and the police department until the new city hall building on Landis Ave is finished. You have to wonder how a rec center with an indoor pool can be justified in a city with less than 3,000 winter residents. There are not enough children in town to support a public school, but somehow it makes sense to build a $5,000,000 rec center. Then there is he estimated $500,000 in annual cost to maintain the rec center.
When 90% of the taxes are paid by non residents that don't have any say in Sea Isle government, the possibilities are endless. Busch's was demolished last week. All that remains of what was Sea Isle's oldest restaurant is a pile of rubble. Construction of the new condos with first floor retail should begin early next year.
