Doc Magrogan's Oyster House is set to open this Memorial Day Weekend management has confirmed. The restaurant / bar is just part of the complex occupying the former site of Busch's Seafood, at 86th Street and Landis Ave. The location will also include The Dunes Inn for overnight accomidations, as well as The Breakwaters Ballroom for events and weddings, though opening dates for those have yet to be announced. Though Doc Magrogan's originally planned to open in February for the Polar Bear Plunge, construction has moved slow and has them working to complete the restaurant just prior to Memorial Day Weekend. The restaurant/bar is sure to be a crowd favorite this summer and should bring some more life to the TI Business area. Henri's Bar, a small outdoor bar nestled behind Braca's Restaurant will soon be expanding. The quiet bar will close to double in size with the demolition of a neighboring house. Henri's Bar, Summer of 2015: As you can see below, Henri's Bar will be able to expand it's tables and bars into the neighboring lot easily. The expansion should make for an even better relaxed outdoor bar experience and will turn Henri's from a hidden gem, to a can't miss bar. For more information on Henri's and other bars in Sea Isle be sure to check out Sea Isle City Bars.
Also, Vote for the best bars in Sea Isle here! With just five weeks until the start of summer season, there is a lot going on in Sea Isle, and a lot to get done before one of the biggest weekends of the year. There have been quite a few changes over the winter. A new Acme, new replenishing of beaches, a new restaurant to replace Busch's and a reconstruction of the sidewalks down town. As mentioned in earlier updates, the work at the new bigger and improved Acme continues around the clock. There is still a lot to be done both inside and outside the store. However Acme expects to have the store open for business on Memorial Day weekend. The parking lot is now smaller since the new building for Uncle Oogies is behind the CVS so parking will be tough. But the new Acme will have wider aisles, better selection, expanded departments, and more checkout lines. The sidewalks on Landis Ave from 38th Street to 43rd Street have been replaced. Landis is currently Closed from JFK Blvd to 44th Street. However the work is almost done and Landis Ave should be open and ready for summer traffic in a week or two. In Townsend's Inlet work is continuing on the new Doc Magrogan's Oyster House and the Dunes at Townsends Inlet. The exterior of the building is almost done. There is still work to be done inside and it looks like they will need to get some lucky breaks in order to be open by Memorial Day. But they are still hoping to be open for the start of summer. The beach replenishment is making great progress. The January storm washed away all the new beaches, but fortunately not the new dunes. So all of the beaches needed to be rebuilt. The work is finished on all beaches from the northern beaches all the way down to about 55th street. The pipes were removed from the beaches downtown and are now being relocated to the southern beaches. The picture above is 33rd Street beach on January 31, 2016. The picture below is the same spot on 4/24/16. The rock pile was completely exposed after the January storm and is now buried under the sand again (as it was after last summer's dredging was complete). Finally, Can anyone explain why the Townsend's Inlet Civic Center doesn't want to accept the fact that Christmas was four months ago. I assume they have a good reason for still having all of their Christmas decorations up. The picture below was taken on 4/24/16. As you can see they are ready for Christmas in July a few months early. Construction on Sea Isle's new Acme is really moving along. Construction crews are working around the clock to have the Acme open by Memorial Day weekend. By the looks of the outside, they are on track to get done in time. We have also heard that great progress is being made on the inside of the store and the cash registers are already being installed. Uncle Oggies new location Behind the CVS is also coming along as you can see below. The only thing missing is parking garage.
They are trying to have the new stores may open for Memorial Day, but they will certainly be open in time for 4th of July. Where will shoppers park? That's a good question since moving Uncle Oogies behind the CVS eliminates at least 20 parking spots. As everyone knows, finding a parking at the Acme spot on a summer weekend was already an adventure. This summer it may be almost impossible. The new Acme will be much larger and a huge improvement over the old store. There will be larger, wider, isles and a bigger checkout area. The improvements also include more loading docks and storage in the rear of the store. The new building for Uncle Oogies is also going up quickly. With just about two months until Memorial Day, the pressure is on. The walls are up and the roof is on. However there is still a lot of work to be done on the exterior. Construction crews are working around the clock to complete the Sea Isle Acme in time for summer. As the pictures below show, they have made a lot of progress after a very slow start in the fall. It looks like the Sea Isle Acme which may the smallest supermarket in the world, is going to be torn down after the summer of 2015 and replaced with a new larger Acme. Several Acme employees have said that the new store will run the full length of the shopping center and be raise several feet in order to comply with building codes and avoid flooding. The others stores in the shopping center may be relocated to the side of the current parking lot behind the CVS.
Although no one enjoys navigating the small isles and the crazy checkout lines, I have to admit that it was part of the summer experience in Sea Isle. It certainly brought back memories of many years ago when supermarkets were much smaller and didn't include bakeries, take out meals, and eat in areas. But memories aside, the Acme really is outdated and undersized for the summer crowds. The biggest question is what will happen to the already insane parking situation. The parking lot was always a bit of an adventure. But ever since they build the new stores with condos above on 63rd street, the parking lot is down right dangerous. (Oh and by the way isn't it nice to have more empty store fronts in Sea Isle, as if there town didn't have enough of a problem keeping retail space filled.) I am afraid to think of what the parking situation will be like once they do build the new Acme, which may have condo's above it as well. If the current state of development in Sea Isle holds true they will build to the very maximum they can get away with and let the parking and traffic situation get worse. |
