Sea Isle City Promenade:
Other shore towns have boardwalks. Sea Isle has the Promenade. The Promenade is an approximately 1.5 mile paved sea wall that runs from 29th street to 57th street. The Promenade was built after the Storm of 1962 came roaring ashore and destroyed Sea Isle's boardwalk and devastated the town. Most of the Promenade has small dunes and beach on the east side and beach front homes and condos on the west side. However from 35th Street to 42nd Street there are shops, arcades and eateries mixed in with the homes and condos. The largest stretch of shops along the Promenade is in the ground floor of the Spinnaker Condominiums. These two large condominium buildings run from 35th Street to 38th Street. The first floor is a mix of stores, two arcades, and two pizza parlors. The Spinnaker also includes the Commodore Club. This members only private club is located between the two Spinnaker Condominium buildings. There are also smaller retail areas along the Promenade between 42nd Street and 44th Street. This area includes Sea Isle's only ocean front bar, the Carousel at the Springfield Inn. Boardwalk Casino Arcade is also in this three block section of the Promenade.
The Promenade is the most popular location for morning jogging biking and walking as there is almost always an ocean breeze and there are no worries about traffic. In the evening walking the Promenade is a vacation activity for almost every one. And since there is usually some activity or free concert at Excursion Park the Promenade from JFK Blvd to 40th Street gets pretty crowded. |
