LaCosta was set to close at the end of last summer, to make way for a new hotel and restaurant complex dubbed "The Ludlam". But, a deal was reached to keep the legendary bar open for one more year as plans for the new project were finalized. Owner Jimmy Bennett made the announcement to a packed crowd labor day weekend inviting everyone back for Polar Bear Plunge 2020 and Summer 2020. There were many rumors floating around this summer that another deal would be reached to keep the bar open another year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, but it appears a deal will not happen.
Employees at LaCosta have confirmed to Sea Isle City Guide that they have been told by management that the last day for LaCosta will be September 21st. Though, no official public announcement has been made by the bar at this time. Though, longtime LaCosta Band FunZaLuv has posted an event for this Saturday at LaCosta calling it "The Final Weekend" and relaying the bar will close for good Sept 21st as well. The bar's lease is reportedly up Oct 1st, and will not be extended.
This spring, the developers received approval by the Sea Isle City zoning board for there 76 -room hotel project, which is also expected to feature a bar/restaurant. The project is expected to take 18 months to complete with an anticipated opening for Summer 2022, and could possibly get underway with demolition of the current site before the end of this year.
