The project, being performed by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company and overseen by the Army Corps of Engineers will pump sand on to Sea Isle's hardest eroded beaches from recent coastal storms.
The areas included in the project are 28th to 53rd Street as well as 75th to 93rd streets.
Early Tuesday morning the dredge "Liberty Island" arrived off the coast of Sea Isle City, and shortly after at 3:45pm Sand began being pumped onto 39th Street Beach. The project will start here and work its way down to 28th street before turning south to 53rd street and then relocating to the South end of the island for the 75th to 93rd street portion.
As of Tuesday, the beaches at 38th, 39th, 40th and 41st are CLOSED for beach replenishment. The closures will be rolling by day and no more than 1000 ft of coastline will be closed at a time by the contractor.
